HYSHKA, Peter August 25, 1937 - July 25, 2018 It is with sorrow and sadness that we announce the death of Peter Hyshka after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Peter was predeceased by his parents John and Mary (Thoms), grandson Eric, and his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Natalie (Sytarchuk), son Darren (Wendy); Grandchildren Carly (Tanner Hall), Katherine, and Brayden, and daughter Donna (Grant Lowey). Peter, affectionately known as Petie, was born on August 25, 1937 in Vonda, SK. He grew up on the family farm. He attended Vonda School for his elementary and high school education. During his school years, he played hockey, football, curling, and developed his passion for music playing the accordion in a band. It was when he was playing in a band at a dance in Smuts in 1960, where he met his future wife Natalie. Peter's passion for music continued throughout his whole life with his own band called the Country Knights. You could find Peter playing the accordion with the band at various weddings and dances. Peter was a hardworking man his entire life. His strong work ethic began on the farm, and then transitioned to his jobs in Saskatoon working for Redi-Mix, Labatt's Brewery, and then Lafarge until age 79 when he was forced to retire due to his health. Peter did manage to be pulled away from his work a few times where he enjoyed family vacations in Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Nevada, Hawaii and Aruba. Peter was an active parishioner of St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral. He was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood. Peter was a kind and generous man who was a friend to everyone. He was a man of strong faith believing in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love. May Peter rest in Peace. Many thanks to the Staff of the Saskatoon Cancer Clinic for their caring support of Peter during his journey with cancer. Thank you to Dr. Darcy Marciniuk, Dr. Peter Spafford, Dr. Bryan Brunet and Dr. Tehmina Asif, as well as the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Paul's Hospital. Prayers will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2018 7:30 p.m. and Divine Liturgy on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., both at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of St. George, 210 Avenue M South celebrated by Rt. Rev. Janko Kolosnjaji. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Catholic Cemetery.
